Post subject:  Silvia brake rotors on a gti?

Ok guys, first post here. I m doing a little (re)search for a friend who's obsessed with fitting BIG brake rotors on his 92 GTi. After some searches in here, I couldn't find something suitable, as his plan is "as close to the rim as possible, as nice looking as possible, I don't care about breaking performance". Now I know this is completely messed up  ,but hey...what can you do? So I searched some more and something about Silvia calipers pops up. That could be interesting, because of the plethora of aftermarket options for this car. But what calipers and what adapters for the calipers should we go for? He's got 15" rims on, for the time being. Anyone with experience on this or a similar setup? Any input and alternatives, welcome.

(Sorry for the bad English  )

(edit)...on further inspection, I can't seem to find a single silvia model that used the 4x114 pattern...

Now I'm really confused...

I will use aftermarket caliper

Wilwood Dynapro 4 pot for front

Wilwood Dynapro 2 pot for rear

I have not received the caliper yet but I wish they will arrived during next week

There is some picture of the front rotor fitment into my 16inch wheel..

The overall radius of the kit is 6''7/8, that means that it will remain 1/8'' between the caliper and the inner wheel.

hey that's my idea of picture! =)

I just had an idea staring at the other side of the wheel. Martin's Bicknell calipers with SOHC hubs, and a GT rotor, to fit on a 14" wheel. or maybe your type-R calipers? what do you think? :ez_wink:

do you have a GS hub that you could test fit your calipers on?

no, sorry.....no GS for me.....and the Type-R caliper do not fit 14'' anymore.

Solution...

I dont want to sell the brackets..... I dont sell brakes not something I mess with on other peoples cars!.

I have however sent Sam the DXF file for the bracket (use at your own risk), hopefully he will be able to host the file and you guys can get it made, should be cheap as all the hard work has been done  .

I previously made some research about wilwood conversion and there my result

suzimaniac wrote:
There are some spec that you need to know before searching any part that may fit GTi hub.

- car - year -rotor diameter (mm) - hub diameter(mm) - rotor hat height(mm)- boltpattern
- Suzuki Swift GT - 1989 to 1994 - 250mm - 60,1mm - 50mm- 4x114,3mm

And there are the spec of other car

- car - year -rotor diameter (mm) - hub diameter(mm) - rotor hat height(mm)
- Honda Accord 4 cyl - 1990 to 2002 - 259,8mm - 64,10mm - 47mm
- Acura CL 2,3l - 1998 to 1999 - 259,8mm - 64,15mm - 47mm
- Honda Prelude Si - 1992 to 1996 - 262mm - 64,1mm - 47,1mm
- Acura Legend - 1986 - 262mm - ? - 51,2mm

11inchs rotor (you need a custom bracket if you want those rotor to fit the caliper)
- Honda Prelude Vtech - 1992 to 1996 - 282mm - 64,1mm - 47,1mm
- Nissan Altima - 1993 to 2001 - 282mm - 66,1mm - 49,2mm
- Acura Legend coupé - 1987 - 282mm- ? - 51,2mm

After that I think that you can start your search

There is a link to download the wilwood catalog: http://www.4shared.com/file/61890045/c4a751d1/2008_Tech_Catalog.html

Honda caliper are direct bolt-on on GTI hub
so we can use the bracket(250-8642) that come in the 11'' honda kit(140-8695)
PDF;http://www.4shared.com/file/61890589/676f901d/140-8695.html
or the bracket (250-6289) that come with the 12,19'' honda kit(140-6163)
PDF;http://www.4shared.com/file/61890047/2aa930fd/140-6163.html

2002 MITSUBISHI LANCER with 4x114,3mm of bolt pattern have front rotor height of 47mm so we can use the Hat(170-6996) from the wilwood kit(140-7015) PDF;http://www.4shared.com/file/61890449/ca18b526/140-7015.html

Note: if you use the lancer hat, that have a bolt circle of 8x7,00'' you will have to use 12,19'' rotor(160-5843) because 11'' rotor(160-5840) have a bolt circle of 6x6,25''. If you want to use 11'' rotor, you need custom made hat or use one piece rotor from an other car that came with 11'' from OEM.

There is something to know about the honda caliper bracket, is that they do not have the same dimension if you take a kit that is disgned to suit the Honda 240mmOE hub or the Honda 262mmOE hub. As you can see in the document follow, there is two different part number for the Honda big brake(http://www.4shared.com/file/61890384/1d ... _list.html)There is a email reply from Wilwood:

Quote:
Hi Gabriel, Thank you for your interest in Wilwood products. The difference in the brackets has to do with the brake rotor size. The 250-6290 is for the 240mm rotor & the 250-6289 is for the 262mm rotor. These brackets are identical except the is 1 3/16" from the bracket mounting holes to the caliper mounting holes & the 250-6289 is 1 11/16" from the bracket mounting holes to the caliper mounting holes. These measurments are from the bolt hole center to center. I hope this helps you out. If you have any other questions please feel free to email me anytime. Hope you have a great day.

Thanks, Jeff Williams

Subject: bracket dimension

Hello, I have search and found nothing. Can you send me a pdf file or a cad file of those caliper bracket (250-6290 and 250-6289). I want to know what is the difference between those two brackets. Is the caliper will be mounted further on a bracket than the other. One bracket is designed for a kit for 240mm oe disc and the other is designed for 262 oe disc.

Thanks you

Gabriel

To this, I know that my custom bracket have approximatly 1 11/16" (+- 1/8) from the bracket mounting holes to the caliper mounting holes, that maybe means that the 250-6290 bracket is a bolt on issue form the 12'' wilwood caliper conversion.

Post subject:  Re: Silvia brake rotors on a gti?

some helpful (hopefully) info.

as far as nissans go, check into the 200sx(s12 or gazelle in europe) i have an 84 as my "baby" bolt patern is 4x114 i dont know the rotor measurments off the top of my head but i can find them for you if you want me to. also they are kinda rare but the s110 has disks all the way around and they are 4x114 as well. and there are "longer than stock" wheel studs available for the s12. hope this helps

actually thought I'd throw in that the 4 piston calipers from a 300zx are supposed to fit first and second gen altimas with a rim size upgrade, probably useless to us, as we can't really fit 17's on these things :P

Some update on the wilwood setup.....don't have pisture of the rear bracket.

As you can see, the rotor are way too big for the caliper...or  the caliper are way to small for the rotor

Doesn't matter, I love the way it look.

Hi, first time post.
I like the Nissan SE-R Spec-V 2006 oem big brake Brembo kit rotors
with Wilwood calipers.
Wilwood Dynapro 4 pot for front &
Wilwood Dynapro 2 pot for rear.
I'm guessing you had to make a custom bracket,
will you be posting the details of the bracket.
I'd like to use your setup for my own Swift Gti.
Thank you
