Im wondering how the width of a wheel can effect the offset of it in relation to the car, if at all?

What i mean is this-

Lets say we have a 6" wide wheel with a +40 offset. This wheel sits exactly flush with the wheel arch.

If we then replace this wheel with a 7" wide wheel but still with a +40 offset where does the extra inch of width go?

Does the wheel still sit flush with the arch, so look exactly the same visualy, with the whole extra inch going inside toward the centre of the car?

Or, is the extra inch shared with half an inch going inside and half an inch going outside, thus making the wheel stick out a little more?

Thanks fellas :D

Offset is measured from the center of the wheel, so an inch wider means half an inch on the inside and half an inch on the outside :D

I cant remember the offset on my wheels but they are a 7" rim, take a look in my album, they are not flush with the arch though 8)

Peenutzz - Thats what i was hoping. Means a 7" wide wheel will look wider then a 6" with the same offset :D

Harry - Thanks but without the offset it doesent really help me. :D
