I think you'll want to keep it--lowering can shift the balance of the car towards understeer, so you may need that rear swaybar more than ever.

At minimum, drive the car hard in a parking lot or somewhere else safe, see how it behaves and decide if you like it--I've found I can run a large rear bar, no front bar and cut springs with no problems. Though the car is a bit rear biased, it is fun and easy to control.

Vw owner? Haha enough said. Most of them don't know their head from their asshole when it comes to anything having to do with cars.

You would be surprised how many modified vws come into my shop.

I believe you i just got done helping him replace his clutch. the job was not to hard but when we got done the gear box was locked up!!!!We scratched our heads and took a break till the next morning he spoke to the VW shop they said don't worry sometimes that happens just try to drive it everything will be ok!!he called me after he did what they said and he blew the knuckle on the cv joint apart. they then told him it was the gear box so just drop it and we will fix it lol. I got to his house and said BS!!! it rolled in here and i rolled the gear box around to get the bolts out so that's BS.I told him we need to drop the cv joints anyhow but let's see if the gear box rotates once the joints are out . Well guess what it rolled no problem it was simply a bad cv joint, it locked up.75.00 later and one hour we were on the road. Do i like VW's no but i wont tell him that he loves his car good or BAD!! :?

Well this is getting off topic, but I think it depends on what sort of VW. Beetle (bus/squareback/fastback/ghia) owners have a lot in common with this crowd and few don't know how to turn a wrench.

It just goes to show how different the brand has become in the last 30 years or so...

I should have stated my comments don't apply to the air cooled guys. Most of them can do their own stuff...then again a drunk monkey could work on those :)

ALL FWD cars need MORE rear sway bar to get them to rotate into corners and help get rid of the understeer.

On my '94 GT, I took the stock bars off, installed a smaller front bar from a '90 GT and put on the largest aftermarket rear bar I could find. Now the handling is nice and neutral.

But not as nice as my A2 Golf which I modified too.
