I've had that problem before (snapping arm), many years ago.

Your right the replacement after market arms are very flimsy, so I now do what was previously mentioned, box them in.

I weld two pieces of box section on the inside of the arm, one next to the welded on knuckle and one where it splays out to where the spring seat is, I then box the whole lot in with 3mm plate.

I have run this on my Tarmac rally car now for 7-8 years and never had the problem again.
