I was reading on redline and noticed a great thread on new swift brake calipers bolting right up to our gti's.
I didn't know this so I thought I would mention it here for anyone else...I was going to use CRX calipers...but I may use the new swift calipers, there are a lot of brake pad varieties to buy.
Here's the link http://www.redlinegti.com/forum/viewtop ... =7&t=52919

didn't read whole topic on redline.. how is new swift vs crx calipers comparison? let's say you get same pads for both calipers, which would be better?

I'm guessing that the swift would be better...they are designed for stopping a larger heavier car than a crx...thats just me guessing though

yeah, but swift sport have same calipers than normal new swift.. so i guess it's not some kind of performance caliper..

front caliper piston diameter is:
swift 05: 54mm
crx: 2 1/8 inch (54mm)
swift gti: 48 or 51mm?
all infos are picked from different web sites so there may be mistakes..

anyway it's look like crx vs swift 05 are same size..

Can anyone confirm the dimensions? Will i get a spongier pedal after the upgrade to the new swift calipers?

if you mean softer/more travel, that's normal because for same pump piston you have larger caliper pistons.. that means for brakes to take effect you need more brake fluid to come from pump so more pedal travel and less force on it.. if it's too much try upgrading your pump, i'm not sure which one is straight swap, but it some suzuki pump.. do some research..

to update piston thing a little..
just replaced stock brakes with swift 2005+ ones..
stock mk3 gti was around 51mm (tokico caliper) and car was japan made
new swift 2005+ is 54mm (lucas/trw caliper - EU/hungary made, japan made use tokico caliper and i'm not sure of piston size but probably the same.. pads are different for sure)

and yeah, those calipers bolt straight on.. car is not jet on road so i cant say about brake feel/difference

edit: ferodo racing have DS3000 pads available for new swift lucas/trw caliper.. also same pads are used for clio 3 1.2/1.4/1.6 16v and some others, check ferodo racing site
