I tried searching the net on Varicam, but their is not much on it. Late 60s Varicam came out with a 2 peice cam gear with a large spring in it, that would automaticaly advannce and retard timing based on the RPMs. Maybe it was not enough timing spread. Wonder if I still have any old old car magazines that still advertise it. Seems like they could have perfected it over the years. I do not recall any write ups about it.

On the Variable lifters, they are still around. To acheive making a wild cam shorter duration in the lower RPM range they have a faster bleed down or controled leak, at higher RPMs the bleed down or controled leak is not notices. But they are loud because of this. After reading more on this, Crane Cams have there own version of these that do not have the tick, tick sound. But they are not nearly effective in shorting the duration as the Rhoades. So a little faster bleed down is better for the cams that have more duration that stock.
I have seen a few write ups about these. But very little was written about the noise or that they might be hard to adjust because of the noise.

Take Care
