i have a 94, metro 3cyl.

i have installed front and rear sway bars out of a 1995 metro. The exhaust shakes much like the engine and the result is, that the pipe swings one way and it hits the rear sway bar. It then bounces off of that and hits the right rear lower control arm. the noise/rattle is constant wether its high or low rpm's, and it drives me nuts!

im in a toss up ...do i buy a completely oem restrictive exhaust and pay the price for a quiet ride?

or is it actually possible to upgrade the exhaust to maybe a less restrictive 1-3/4" or 2.0" without sounding llike a fart pipe? I wouldnt mind a little louder than stock, but fart pipes drive me nuts too.

I was thinking of installing cherry bombs/ glasspacks in every straight section of pipe.
For example, first the manifold/header and cat, then 1 or 2 glass packs, then the 90degree bend to the right side of the car, then maybe another where the stock muffler was. I would think with 3 cherry bombs it should be fairly quiet even if it was 2".

AND FINALLY would it be a better idea to do a solid mount exhaust with a flex pipe? That way when the flex pipe goes its only a $20 fix?

What is everyone else doing to get around this problem?

im on the same boat as you are, right now. i would want to go all the way SS but with headers. but quite honestly, im not so sure about spending 700 on the exhaust project till im sure how much would it be to do a complete engine rebuild cost. keep us updated... my thread is on the mk5 north american swifts -- re:need help on exhaust"

lol, see you there...

still no update HEY blueturbofly you said you have a 2" pipe and a stock muffler isnt the stock muffler inlet 1.5"? Did you get an adapter or did you find an oem replacement with a 2" inlet?

Go 2" with 1 glasspack after the cat and see if you like the sound. If not, you can always add one more glasspack at the very back. With a cat, and 2 glasspacks, it will be quiet.

Make a few calls, and find an exhaust shop that does custom work for the right price.
