Hi all,

I've been writing a lot lately and thanks for all your help...I bought a 96 Metro and the speakers in the front are blown. What a piece. Anyway I bought some new speakers to replace them, but they are 5 1/4". I got them from Crutchfield and their site says they will fit in the door.

When I took the door apart and removed the panel, it looks like there is going to be two problems in getting the 5's installed. Once is the hold cut for the standard 4" speakers doesn't look big enough for 5 1/4". The other, probably more important, is there is a fixture inside the door, right beyond the speaker hole, that looks like it's deep enough to accomodate a speaker at all (the fixture looks like the window guide or something). I assume I'm not the first one to try and put better speakers in the door sides - how did you guys get around these issues?

Thanks!

depending on the door you can sometimes get spacers that will hold the speaker out a bit and still fit behind the door panel. Not sure how mauch space you have but it may be worth a shot. If that doesn't work you may be looking into some door pods...but if you have to go through all that trouble...upgrade to 6.5's.
