There is no best...go out and listen to as many as you can and pick from that.

what an oxymoron. The best subs will definately not be the cheapest.

Just try to beat the value in these. I've bought at least a dozen of them, and ussually pay in the $20/ea. range

Thats very true, i have a 256C and i have to say, despite being cheap, its a lot crisper and better quality than some of my friends who have lesser well known branded subs which cost double the price

You will not find a better sounding, cheaper, able to run so well off such low wattage sub then the JLW1V3

If you want pure SPL, go with Digital Designs, the undisputed KING of SPL

Except that you won't manage to fit a 9918DZ (and its 26kw of Stetson amplifiers) into a Swift. Much easier to put something else in there. The undisputed king of SPL is not DD though. Top 3 SPL contenders...

3. (310 dB.)

Krakatoa 1883

-CRACKED ONE FOOT THICK CONCRETE
-AT 300 MILES, CREATED A 3000 FOOT TIDAL WAVE, HEARD 3100 MILES AWAY,
-SOUND PRESSURE CAUSED BAROMETERS TO FLUCTUATE WILDLY AT 100 MILES
-INDICATING LEVELS OF AT LEAST 170-190 DB (P) AT THIS DISTANCE OF 100 MILES
-EVEN WHEN SHOUTING IN SOMEONES EAR, COULD NOT BE HEARD AT 100 MILES
-CAUSED FOG TO APPEAR AND DISAPPEAR INSTANTLY AT HUNDREDS OF MILES
-ROCKS WERE THROWN TO A HIEGHT OF 34 MILES.
-DUST AND DEBRIS FELL CONTINOUSLY FOR 10 DAYS AFTER BLAST. PRODUCED VERY COLORFUL SUNSETS FOR ONE YEAR,
-EJECTED 4 CUBIC MILES OF THE EARTH.
-CREATED ANTI-NODE OF NEGATIVE PRESSURE AT THE EXACT OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE EARTH.
-Every recording barograph in the world ducumented the passage of the airwave, some as many as 7 times as the wave bounced back and forth between the eruption site and its antipodes for 5 days after the explosion.

2. (316db)

Sorantini 1470

-ALTHOUGH MORE ENERGY THAN KRAKATOA, IT BLEW UP OVER A LONGER PERIOD OF DAYS AND NOT AS VIOLENTLY, HENCE THE INSTANT PEAK PRESSURE IS BELIEVED TO BE LOWER THAN KRAKATOA.

-15 CUBIC MILES EJECTED, CREATED TIDAL WAVE 165 FEET HIGH AT A DISTANCE OF 80 MILES

1. (320db)

Tambora 1815

-EJECTED 36 CUBIC MILES.APPROXIMATELY EQUAL TO 14,000 MEGATON NUCLEAR BOMBS OR A 14 GIGATON BOMB.

-IF WAS A NUCLEAR BOMB IT WOULD CREATE A CRATER ABOUT 12.4 MILES WIDE AND 1.33 MILES DEEP.INTERNAL PRESSURE IS BELIEVED TO BE ABOUT 47 MILLION P.S.I. = 347 DB (P) -REF.1.3.

Yes...I was bored when I wrote this....

I've had amazing bass out of my dvc 8" Audiobahn's. Two in a dual ported box, fit nicely in the back of the sprint. Roof rattling bass. I cant count how many times i've heard "Those are eights?". I think you can get them on ebay for like $35 a piece.

They are a good deal, however, they are flawed (believe me, I've gone through my share of bad ones). The first flaw is that their tinsel leads are too short sometimes (it varies). So, with enough excursion, they simply snap off. However, if that weren't enough, they used too thin of a tinsel lead & they get so hot that will melt through. Of course, this is assuming that you use a large ammount of power (300 watts or more). If you're conservative though, they are a very good deal.

I second that as well. Pioneer has always been at the top of the curve in subwoofers for well over a decade now (back around 92 one magazine pitted Pioneers cheapy against JL Audio's W1 series & the pioneer was within one point out of 100 with the JL's, but was about 1/3 the price). I'm suprised there isn't more hype over them. Compare one of their Premier line subs with a JL Audio W3 & try to tell me the difference. JL's real claim to fame is the ability to use a minute enclosure.

Personally though, if you want the most for your money, get a mid-range sub from any reputible company & you should be fine. It's more about the enclosure & where you put it than the sub alot of the time anyhow. Properly port a sub & you'll have earned a free subs worth of bass.
