There was a guy here who fitted a larger alt to his MKI but I can't remember his name ATM. I like Odyssey batteries a lot. I used to use Optimas but the Odysseys are built better IMO. You should toss the cap and upgrade the power and ground wires. There is a FAQ on how to do this. Search "big three".

A cheap battery upgrade for me was a big motomaster elimaneter, had almost 1000cca. this battery was a monster for my gti. But thats for my 4x4 now, i'll soon be taking m's advice and buying a tiny little odyssey and upgrading the wires.

If your gonna run a big system I won't recomend the Odyssey I have or your gonna fry it in no time. They do make many other sizes/capacities to sort you out.

I RUN A OPTAMA YELLOWTOP. ITS AWSOME 1200CCA I THINK IT LASTS A LONG TIME TOO... BEFORE I COULD ONLY RUN MY STEREO WITH THE CAR OFF FOR LIKE 2 HOURS BEFORE IT DIED (8 SPEAKERS, 2 AMPS AND 210"SUBS) BUT NOW I CAN RUN IT ALL DAY AND STILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS CAR STARTS RIGHT UP.

We really need to emphasize the elimination of those huge capacitors from stereo systems. On the surface they appear to be an excellent idea: "instant response to power needs". But digging further into their design makes one realize that you're actually using more power that your system could be using on it's own, since the cap needs to be constantly charged.

My favourite personal story: installed a cap with my stereo system. Went through countless alternators, both the 35A and the 55A versions. Took the cap out after reading a bit more about their function... and all the sudden I've been using the same alternator since.

Funny that.

Didn't make any noticeable difference in sound with it removed... and I might go as far to say that my SQ actually improved, but could be just me.
