I plan on installing some 6x9's in my 4 door sprint sometime soon, i don't really want to have speaker boxes but would rather find a place somewhere in the car to cut and fit the speakers. my car was only $150 but still is in good shape so i don't wanna mutilate the interior...just get some better sound. thought about cutting into the door panels on the front doors but wasn't sure. opinions wanted and pictures are always great. thanks guys.

Yup you did mention it was a sprint. Somehow I missed that...but without the year I would have asked anyway ;).

I'm a little inexperienced with the MKI shell but I'm going to make an educated guess that the 6x9's won't fit the doors without a lot of hassle. A 6.5" or 5.25" driver will fit a lot easier and sound just as good. The 6x9 may go a little bit louder than a 5.25" but it would likely be neck and neck with a 6.5". Regardless of the speaker you choose you may have to make some mounting rings to hold the speaker out a bit if it has a big magnet so that it doesn't interfere with the window mechanism. This will be harder with a 6x9 because its so wide. Ultimately you'll have to cut so double check where the cuts need to be made and make sure you aren't cutting something structural (whether for safety or to keep your window mechanism from buckling) that will cause problems down the road.

Do a quick search and you'll find all the little differences. There may not be much difference in the speaker mounting but there are quite a few others beyond just the difference in body style.

ok. I have noticed that i see very few sprints in town with the big pointed head lights like mine. I prefer the way mine looks compared to the later model metros and other different front ends haha it actually gives the sprint a sporty look...I hate square headlights!

MK1s have cutouts in the doors to fit 4" speakers. You'll have to figure out how to get wiring into the doors though.

i got my new speakers in my little red car. just 6x5's in a box in the cargo area. Actually sounds really good! i'm still using the stock speakers in the dash that are full of holes but they work fine for vocals so no need to change em out yet i guess!
