anyone know where to get a real cheap set, as in 4, of good 4 inch speakers? The speakers in the geo are complete crap, stupid cheap paper cones...anyway, I want to update mine so it actually sounds good but dont want to spend much at all.

thats true, but the pick and pull I use to go to is getting extremely pricey. If I do try to go there, what is a good list of cars with 4 inch speakers that I can look for. The more recent the better, I am ultimately trying to rid of these crappy paper speakers

Try some 4" Pioneers. They sound good and are cheap. I think I paid $40 on sale here in Canada. Should be cheaper in States.

They are actualy a few years old and are along the lines of Pyle gear. Not the greatest by a longshot but better than nothing. Pioneer should have something inexpensive? What about Clarion and Kenwood?

I've heard they were new, but I did fear that they were a brand similar to pyle or boss. I suppose I'll browse, looks like I could get 2 sets of kenwoods for just over $40 which isnt bad, at least they are a reputable brand.

The rep for them in my area was offering them to the shop I worked at back in 2002.

All these brands are still pretty expensive. I don't know if you guys have a store called XS Cargo in the States. It's a place where you can buy brand new surplus stuff or buybacks for next to nothing. I bought 2 pair of MA Audio 4 inch with swivel tweeters, gold plated connectors, crazy power handling etc. for 20 bucks. Both pair for 20 bucks and it's all brand new. They also had a lot of no-name surplus speakers for 5 bucks a pair. And they sound amazing. If you guys don't have that store in the States, try Wal-Mart. The Dual brand, as stupid as it sounds, is not bad at all. They want 30 bucks a pair for the 4 inch here in Canada. They have a soft dome tweeter that sounds amazing.

I wonder how much shipping would be if I gave you money to buy them....I am also checking craigslist for used ones, I dont know why I didnt think of that before. I tried walmart, was gonna see if roadmaster has any kind of 4 inch speakers but dont, and didnt see any dual 4 inch speakers I dont beleive. I'll have to check again

yeah xs cargo can be good for some things, but alot of it is refurb's too. But I do have to say the MA audio stuff sounded decent, last I was there though they didnt have any. atleast in saskatoon

Yes in the home audio they have a lot of refurbished stuff but all their car audio is brand new. The only reason why it's so cheap is because they are end-of-line products and XS Cargo gets them for real cheap. Those MA Audio speakers are probably close to 80 bucks a pair in the States. And compared to my Pioneer, the MA are a lot crisper and provide more bass.

I should go check them out again, what were they rated at for power? im wanting to remove my 4 speaker amped setup (giving only ~37.5w rms to each one) and give both front speakers the ability to take 75w rms and run no rear speakers. this is amp power not deck power. even though the deck says 50wx4, its really only like 10-15w rms.

Let me know if they have anything. If they don't, i have a brand new pair in the box that i bought for my white GTI but i sold the car and i have no use for them anymore. I also have 2 Apine Type R but they are used. I believe the RMS wattage is 40 but i'm not so sure.
