Still striking out finding a '98 OEM Chevy Metro stereo connecting cord. This is the 'patch' cord that connects an OEM Metro stereo to the OEM wire harness behind the dash, AND provides enough slack to slide the unit in & out. Its essentially an extension cord. All I seem to find is the common 'pigtail' end that let's you connect to an aftermarket brand everywhere. Have not found the mating 'pigtail' to use to make up a connecting cord either.

Found it can be confusing trying to explain. The M nylon plug has the F pins & the F plug has the M pins. Need 1 of each or an assembled cord. So far everybody seemed to think they had it locally & none has. Online so far all outies or nonresponsive. Did learn a batch of GM models had same plugs.

These are the rectangular (~12 x 40 mm) 13 pin natural nylon connectors. Has pattern of 6 pins (boxes) at either side & 1 at center sharing space w/catch. Later plugs have 24 minitature pins, room for 2 rows of 12.

After carrying around the common end connector from a "98 Chevy Metro OEM stereo cord" to car stereo shops for months I finally got lucky today. Apparently there's some glitch in published application guides obscuring it, b/c once recognized the correct mating plug to connect to this was used in more cars & for more years than I'd have guessed. However it was seldom stocked & the 1 I found, dated '95, lingered in a dusty, tattered poly bag, that had been ripped open, taped & stapled shut & punched thru half dozen times to hang on pegs. It's instruction sheet doesn't include Metro, but has applications for various Dodge, Geo, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Plymouth, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Suzuki & Toyota models all the way back to '82!

Had to deal w/Sticker Shock unfortunately. The guy wanted over $25 after tax! Asked why so much for this leftover orphan, since the mating plug is online for $3? Was about to bolt to U-Pull & extend my search to the now much wider field when he offered it for $10.

If anyone is interested its a Scosche Industries item IM01, or IM01B, 1990-UP, Universal Import Car Stereo Connector. I'm left wondering if others might've had it, but were unable to ID strictly by the numbers?

Wal-Mart has this connector in the car stereo aisle. It is $7 there. They are on a rack next to the speakers and is labeled "universal import stereo connector".
