Is there any way to tell by the looks if this is a GT dohc or the regular swift sohc? why do some GT's have rear wipers and wings and some do not? Thanks for any help

If it has disc brakes in the back its more then likely a GT

This one probably has drums . All GT's came with body color door handles , bumpers , rear view mirrors , spoiler on the top of the hatch and GT seats , shifter , steering wheel . Looks like this one is also missing GT fog lights

probably the easiest is to Pop the hood ? and to check for rear discs as mentioned By DTM GTI above...if not posibile, check the cluster if the redline is @ 6500 rpm not a GTi and if redline is at 8000 then is probably a GTi, and rear sway bar is a good sign,or lack of one :)
Mine was originally not GTi but had rear wing, side skirts, fog lights and rear wiper... but not discs, and rear sway bar and was missing like 25 horses :)

Looks like a GA with GT side skirts to me.

I sold this car to a friend at work. I now have a Saturn L which is an Opel Vectra B.

It doesn't have the rubber trim under the rear side windows. That's the way the GA is sold .

B & C pillars are also not painted black like a GT.

It is possible it is a GS. They came with painted GT bumpers but no skirts and the rest of the car was the same as a GA.
