jv&s,

This reminds me of a recent thread started by a new member seeking advice on how much to pay for an 88 Forsa.

http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=60573

The prospective buyer mentioned that the Forsa seller's emotional attachment to the car might have placed him at a negotiation disadvantage.

My reply to the buyer (repeated below) is similar to the sentiment I see in the generous offer you are making to the community:

Quote:
Sometimes this can save you money, if the seller is less concerned about money, and more concerned about finding an appreciative new owner for their pride and joy. Applies to cars in any condition, since these cars possess so much character, regardless of condition. Experience suggests that those with (ahem) multiple cars are more likely to put weight on the buyer's intentions.

Eg. I'm looking to remove the floor pan sheetmetal before sending it to the scrapper (gasp!) vs. I've been looking for a car like this for x years and this one's a keeper. (ahh!)

As a multiple owner of many needy Swift variants in various stages of restoration, I have often thought about whether to thin the herd, and the best way to do it. Thanks for leading the way !

I was just thinking about the status of your post today Scott..

I wanted to ask whether you found a deserving Charlie for part of your Wonka collection after all these months looking..

I am contemplating a similar opportunity right now myself.. it can be tough keeping multiple projects on indefinite hold, when there is so much history and potential in each car.. waiting for someone to step forward that sees more just than a pile of parts ..

Those are really nice Metro convertibles!

For some reason I thought your collection was mostly MK1s.

Oh well.. MK1 and MK2s qualify as collector/antique cars now.

Walking amongst Scottie's treasure trove was unlike my trip to Dr. Phil's. At Phil's you were treated to rows of catalogued parts, some only taken out to be polished and put back, others to rebuild. Scottie's was like a mad scientist in a morgue. Amongst all the carnage were parts strewn haphazardly around, engines in stages of undress, auto carcases waiting for transplants. Allways the mad scientist, Scottie would wax eloquently about where said parts came from and where they were going to. Only Dr. Scottie could tell you what each item was exactly. The funny thing is that both ends of the spectrum were treasure troves of parts and a wealth of information.

Wow, I wish I had the 'vert back. I can't remember, was the black one a GTi? I only have two of the three colors available for 1989; Red and White. I would turn the 'Vert into a clone of Tay's car from Melbourne.

I remember this:
The staff at the Hilton in SeaTac allowed me to park right next to the security office. They blocked off 8 car stalls so that I could park all of this under their watchful eye. I think they made a $50 tip for this too. I think we pulled the old driver switch, Scott. You had a ride across from a "patron going to the mainland." I remember the ferry crew looking at both of these beauties and this long monstrosity as being a PITA.
