As some may know Im looking for Mk1 4.7 (or close to it) final drive for my track car.

I have spoken to a local gear manufacturer (Modena engineering) and they may be willing to offer discounts for multiple units.

The price estimation will be provided pending the inspection of the main shaft arrangement.
(I will be providing my gearbox as a sample to the workshop).
A timeframe of late January 2007 approximately is my target pending all things going to plan.

Is there any interest for those gears ?

Yeah thats the problem, what do you call reasonable? a factory 4.4 for a mk2 is about NZ$600 (about AU$520/US$390) brand new from my local suzuki dealer, I guess around AU$700-800 would be reasonable for a custom made final drive? are they going to be straight cut or helical??? I don't see much point in making them helical...
A mate of mine might be interested, I will ask him.

is that 600NZ for gti width unit or the cino thinner one?
Would that include the shaft and a crown wheel?
As far as I know there is no option to go higher. 4.4 would be neither here nor there for me. Not enough of a difference to really make it worthwhile.

The sample will be sent to Modena on Monday. I should have an estimation by the end of next week on costs.

What is everyone's preference as to the cut? Straight or helical, if helical is there an option on angle?

Straight cut would be stronger and better for motorsport.

Well I don't think anyone with a road car would need a 4.7 ratio therefore only motorsport guys would be keen, so obviously you would make them straight cut, nothing like a nice whine while touring between special stages  hmm reminds me of my old Datto with straight cut box  seriously though straight cut puts less pressure on the casing as well as being stronger, although teeth snapping off a crownwheel is extremely rare.

update.

items were sent to Modena for evaluation and pricing. I should have an answer early next week.
I have also asked them to measure out the diff to see a possible Torsen Diff application they also make for mk2/3 swifts.

Update.

Good news and Bad news.

Good.
They can replicate the splines ! Hence they can make the gears.

Bad.
They want AUD$1400 (USD$1100).

They are back from the self imposed holidays next week. I will talk to the manager about pricing but he seemed rather standoffish about it.

Is anyone else interested so I can present a larger order requirement?

The order is placed for 3 sets.

Im keeping the 1st one.

the other two are up for sale. People who have expressed interest in those above get the 1st pick.

Price is USD$950 + shipping

If more are required I can still place the order for more at this price within next week.

The final drive will be helical as the loads placed on the OEM gear I supplied to them would suggest there is very little in wear on those and it does not appear to be a major failure point.
