I am planning on running another group buy, likie the crank scraper one. I have ben in contact with several manufacturers of factory fit, lightweight Lexan windows for the rear quarter and rear glass windows. So far It looks like pricing will be about $250-$300 for a setof allrear glass, or about $200 for just the rear quarter glass. Plus shipping. We can get either a factory fit (seals into factory window rubber surround) or drag style (rivet he windows to an extruded aluminum channel mounted on the inside of the window frame) These windows would be profesionalqualty, ju like the ones from Flex-a-lite. They would include a factory black surround and could be sold as a kit with all hardware included. i need to guage interest in these kits first, befre i decide if I should go ahead and eta prototype set made up.

I shouldn't have to explain to anyone why lexan, but just in case: MR10 Lexan from G.E. is 30% of the weight of a similar sized piece of glass. It is scrath resitant (you can rub it with steel wool and not scratch it thanks to the MR10 coating) it is shatter proof and recognizd by most sanctionng bodies. You can save over 40 lbson a swift by replacing all the rear glass.

Email me at jeffkuzub@shaw.ca if you are interested.

not legal for the racing I do, but I'd still be interested in ordering a set, just to keep in storage in case I ever decide to go rallying... :D

Oooo.. :D I'm interested. I'd prefer the OEM style. BTW some areas don't recognize plastic windows as street-legal (not like I personally care). I presume that the rear window would have no defroster wires? (Oh wait, I never use the defroster) I've also seen a manufacturer that embed an interior coating on the plastic to prevent condensation acumulation.

Another group buy... The suffering never ends for you huh Jeff?

I would be interested in rear quarter ones with OEM fitting. Are we able to tint these windows so they match the stock glass ones?

Some types of window tint film react very badly when applied to plastic instead of glass.

Hey Jeff, can I get my rear window without the hole for the wiper motor shaft?

Hey Jeff, Sounds good. The OEM fit would be good for me. Will the Lexan be totally clear or have the same blacked out areas? Also, Will the thickness be enough were it will not flex? Also any chance of OEM fit door sections? Just wondering.

The time frame is not bad. I just will put some stuff on hold and start saving so the wife does not find out. I need final dates and figures. To say if I can get the money in time. But I am interested!

i should be able to make end of january or later work for my budget, the rear hatch is questionable for me, but certainly the side glass. it would be cool if we could just get tinted plastic right from the start, no film to worry about applying or fading .. i wouldn't mind paying a little extra ...
and like lihtan was suggesting, possibly no wiper hole ?
if you need any help again, let me know =)

It seems that everyone wants the factory fit style. So thats the way we will go.

We will also get these windows made of either a tinted MR10 lexan, which is equivalent to the "limo" tint, or clear lexan. Your choice. This way you will not have to retint the glass, as tint films aren't recommended on lexan.

I will have the edge areas painted black to simulate the factory windows as closely as possible too.

The rear hatch glass won't have a defroster in it anymore, so you can pull the switch and wiring and fuse etc. to save another 1/2 lb or so. The lexan will be 1/8" thick for maximum weight savings.

If you install it nicely, the cops won't even be able to tell - besides who gives a f&*%$ about street legal? We all have blue headlights and loud exhausts......

I will offer both a kit with just rear quarter glass and raer hatch glass. Pricing is still to be determined, but will be about as much as previously mentioned, plus shipping and a few other associated costs. I will try to get it finalized ASAP.

I learned ALOT from the last group buy, and will do this one very much the same. I will accept PayPal, and PayPal only. NO MONEY ORDERS OR CHEQUES OR CASH. This time I will require a deposit to confirm you are interested, then full payment before I get the windows shipped to me. then I will ship out to you guys.

Time frame will depend on how fast these guys can make a prototype.

email me with questions: jeffkuzub@shaw.ca

sounds good, i'm in, it would be great if they had all the mounting bits, as i've had some trouble with the latch piece of mine.
=)
not a bad response for a 1 day thread, i'm sure there may be a number more, these would be an awesome opp. again for some race/rally type goodies that will probably never been seen/manufactured again ...

Jeff, But is the rear hatch section going to flex? Or the sides? If they do not flex. No one should be able to tell.

does it matter for the rear quarters & rear window ? the only laws i know of are for the front windows & windshield .. but it's been a while since i've really looked into it ...
i definately want tinted, it's on the request list along w/ some sort of stereo from my girl .. i wonder how lightweight i can do the stereo and still hear it over the engine/exhaust ...

I think we do have light transmission limits for window tint in BC, but I think the cops only cause trouble if you tint your front windows. I do know that in BC one requirement is a passenger side mirror if your back windows are tinted.

Does a Discman and headphones count as a lightweight stereo?
The funny thing is I alway heard traffic better wearing headphones, then when I had a fully functioning car audio setup... :?

I exchanged some emails with Dr Kuzuki, here's the decision on the wiper motor shaft hole issue:

Quote:
If there is a hole in the glass for the wiper shaft, it will be no
problem
to have a window made without it. In fact, I may have all the windows
made
without them, and if someone wants to retain the rear wiper they can
hole-saw
an opening for it themselves. maybe I'll make a template to locate the
hole
easily too.

Jeff

Couple of Q's here. Will these windows be stronger than the factory window glass? I would be looking at this mod more for protecting the car from theives and making it a little harder to get in it. I realize that with a bat and enough swing you can get through anything but every litle bit helps for me. Weight savings is a bonus though. By limo tint do you mean 5%? That's what I have on my car right now and I wouldn't want the back to be lighter than the front.

Thanks
