Code says crank sensor is no good.Had it replaced at a MA State inspection facility.Light won't go out, same code.Took it to another shop, they can't fix it either. The only thing that happened previously was a shorted out alternator which was replaced.Any ideas on how to proceed?

You don't have an oil pan gasket do you? Oil pan needs to be bolted directly to the block in order for the sensor to be close enough to the wheel. Also, the sensor and computer grounds are all bolted to the block under the intake manifold very near the alternator.

Hey I dont know that this will fix you up or not but the same thing happened to my '98 Metro right after I installed an Alpine deck!
The Damn dome light fuse blew! I spent 2 days chasing wires trying to figure that out!
Check your gas cap too! If it aint tight the pressure wont build up enough and you'll get that DAMN light!
Anyway .......Worked for me! Oh and I have 207000 miles!

I agree with Woodie. Crawl under and see if an oil pan gasket is visible between the pan and block. If so, it's causing too much of a sensor gap. Remove it and use RTV silicone on the pan with no gasket.
