usually just replace entire axle assembly,if insde bearings are shot more than likely outside balls are clicking when turned hard,g.m. manual recomends axle replacment rather than repair, try dealership for bearings, most likely more $$$$$$ than a re-man axle....my last axle cost me $30$ after core charge, core charge was $100$ plus i have lifetime warranty, any problems, they give me another axle for FREE =)

Are the outers from the mini even the right diameter that the Metro bearing would fit and work?

You could try a junk yard and scavenge the inner bearings.
