I've got a problem with the drivers door and wondered if anyone has any suggestions.

When the car door is unlocked it's really hard to open the door. It seems like when the key is turned, the unlocking mechanism is not engaging far enough and as a result the catch is still sitting partly over the locking bar. If I push down on the top of the door (to press the door towards the road) the door opens. But it's getting worse and I'm afraid that I'll be coming in through the hatch soon (the passenger door had a new lock and when I bought the car, no other key!).

When you look into the car at the lock flap it never moves totally across to the left (as you're looking from the outside) when unlocked. Could it be a loose cable inside the door trim?

Is there anything I can check/do to sort this out?

Thanks

Paul

There are no cables in there, it's all done by rods - it's quite possible for one of them to be bent pop the panel off and have a look, it's not difficult to do.

The lock and latch rods also have a plastic clip that tie them together to reduce flexing. If the clip goes missing the rods prefer to bow instead of perform their designated function.
