After reading many posts about people whose cars sputter and run out of gas at only 1/4 tank full, I was thinking about how to simply test if the tank has a plugged tub baffle hole, without having to remove the tank and having a look.

''gas tank tub baffle hole'' = the small opening found in the base of the tub shaped baffle inside the gas tank, intended to keep the fuel pump intake immersed in fuel, without sucking air during cornering or acceleration, when the gas tank is not full, and which can plug up due to rust or other contaminants.

The test idea is:
(1) Wait until symptoms occur (around 1/4 full gas tank) and engine sputters or dies.
(2) Undo the fuel line and return fuel lines near the throttle body, and temporarily redirect the fuel inlet gas from the electric fuel pump back to the baffled tub area via the fuel return line. If the tub baffle hole is actually plugged, this method could be used to refill the tub with enough fuel to restart the engine and confirm the plugged hole hypothesis.
