So, this isn't for my swift gti, it's actually for my elantra (I know it's a swift forum, and I should follow forum rules, but you guys are helpful as all Hell.)
I changed the blown ignition fuse. swapped the alternator, thinking it wasn't holding a charge. It's an old battery. Could changing the battery fix the issue or what is it?

A bad battery will cause many problems , puts a huge load on the alternator as well .

most likely a bad cell or two in the battery. charge it up good and take it somewhere to have it ''load'' tested....most likely a direct short (inside) when load is applied.
did a battery last week in a co-workers Plymouth breeze....it was charging good, battery was only 2 years old, but would go dead overnight, or while parked at work. battery was 900 ca, but on my load tester it only held 400 ca, then drop quickly to 200 ca.
install new battery, car starts great, does not go dead.
 garbage Canadian tire batteries!

There are only a few battery manufacturers, don't blame your retailer they didn't make it.
You get what you pay for when you buy a battery.

Canadian tire is well known for poor batteries.....
the other place I get batteries from put the label on them when you buy them  so I don't really know who makes them.....but they last longer than crappy trash batteries!

if its a car you plan on keeping, spend the money and go for optima red top....that's all I use in the company vehicles when the factory battery craps out. down time costs money.....

the red top has been in my wifes truck since 2005....no problems at all.

all my cars have red or yellow top optima batteries 8)
