I have a 95 Geo Metro with the 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed stick. Engine recently overhauled, strong battery, starter, etc. Started and ran fine when cold for first couple years. Recently Does not start when below 30 degrees (does not fire even with a touch of starting fluid), installed block heater, starts fine when warmed up. Lately hard to start even when warmed. After it runs a few minutes all is fine. Check engine light is on and has been since overhaul, have not checked code

Not a common problem so could be a bit tricky. Codes are super easy to pull, just need to stick a fuse in a slot in underdash fuse box and it will flash them to you. Symptoms do point to a bad coolant temperature sensor, but technically it should start with ether or gas down throttle body if it's that sensor and it's just not enriching mixture enough to fire cold. Locate that sensor and make sure it's plugged in properly and pins are ok etc. further, since engine was just done, check all connections and grounds on back of intake to confirm its not just a simple connection issue.
It's more likely something due to engine being in and out than a new issues that's cropped up from my experience.
