Hello, a poster on Geometroforum.com asked a question about EFE heater gaskets used on 1994 Geo Metro equipped with the 1.0 3 cylinder engine. (Same info applies to 1995-2001 Metros with the 1.0 engine)

Since I don't know how to post pix to GMF (but do know how to post to TS gallery), I thought I might as well write up a post topic here as well, in case it may be useful to any members trying to identify what their old burned out gaskets used to look like, and what parts to buy.

The EFE (Early Fuel Evaporation) heater fits between the TBI (Throttle Body) and the intake manifold. On later OBDII equipped cars, this part can trigger a check engine trouble code if the lower gasket breaks down and shorts to ground.

There is a different gasket used on the upper and lower mating surfaces of the EFE heater to the TBI and to the intake manifold.

Pictured are the gaskets and their corresponding surfaces, along with the Suzuki part numbers.

The upper TBI to EFE gasket is a thin aluminum gasket with rubberized coatings on both sides.

The lower EFE to intake manifold gasket is made of a coated paper / heat resistant material (greenish appearance when new) and has additional passages that appear to allow heat dissipation from holes and passages machined into the upper and lower mating surfaces of the EFE.

In the picture below, I left a chunk of the old gasket stuck to the EFE unit.
