If it was Banff and a group of people in a room, douglas fir has some big rooms (beds up and down + seperate room) and for the amount of people that can be stuffed in, it is usually a pretty good rate. Waterslides and such as well, although I think i've only ever used those once whileI was there. www.douglasfir.com/

Or I personally like the hiking/camping/lake ideas.

Name some locations guys.
-Kyle Jones
Junk-Yard Turbo set-up, formerly NOS-fed, constantly evolving 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi

i was talking to Dr. Kuzuki a little while back... we should consider hosting an autocross or something?

that would be GREAT! obviously we wouldn't have any prizes or nothing, but it would be a great place to meet, show-off and just watch if you please.

there's look, I'm retarded plenty of hoops to jump... but if we've got like 5 months notice we could look, I'm retarded set something up...

there would obviously be some costs... but nothing too spectacular i wouldn't think... pylons we can steal... a parking lot we can borrow, timimg equipment can be rented... insurance is look, I'm retarded somthing to consider, what with 9-11 and all, people are afraid of crashing cars into thier tall buildings and such....

i dunno, something to consider... i just don't want to show up in banff with like 6 cars while we all sit in a campsite or something... it seems like driving around is something we should do, and seeing as these cars tend not to be the happiest on the highway... (i know my turbo 3 SCREAMS over 130) maybe an autocross would be cool, or something of equal nature.

likewise w/ the drive to banff. if we can form a little convoy, just about any drive would be fun. well except for across the flats/straights of alberta .. ugh .. i just need a place where i can string my hammock tent between a couple trees =)

Somewhere in the rockies would be cool....twisty mountain roads are fun....I would love to see an all-swift autocross in there too...but we need some tarmac. Anyone know of a parking lot in Banff big enough?
My Suzuki 1.3 GT

Thanks for the map link. It appears like it would be a 3 to 4 day drive. That is a bit of a hike for a couple of days hanging out. Maybe if you guys had a week long event going on then it would be more feasable to make the run up there.
Mike

Edited by: WE0H at: 2/14/03 11:27:53 pm

I live in Kelowna, BC and you might want to check us out. We have a nice big lake and our summer weather is great! and it is a city, not just a town with lots to do. The old Western Star truck lot would be a great place to hold an autocross...

kelowna would be perfect if someone could arrange an autocross track .. the drive out is pretty good from both east & west. weather is almost guaranteed to be nice as well. not quite as green & camping may be a bit harder to arrange, but it sounds like a great suggestion.

It seems doubtful that there are any (available or legal or any at all) parking lots in the mountains. Kelowna might be it. There are autocrosses regularily held there too.

I know Kelowna will be seering hot in late July and early August. Perhaps a August long weekend meet? That's the 1, 2, 3 and the 4 th?

That gives us all the time to prepare for it and set it up....?
My Suzuki 1.3 GT

Why cant we get a meet in the center of the U.S.? That way I would be about the same drive for everyone. I know alot of guys live in Canada. I do not want to cross the border. Last time I did I had to spin at some club and on the way back they tore my rental car apart at the border!
www.DJKOS.com

I'm in Brockville Ontario now and am driving the Fishbowl out to Edmonton via Calgary in July. So Banff works for me the best. I could probably head out to Kelowna if necessary. Any Montreal/GTA/401 Swifties could convoy across the Great White North.

Sounds great!

Matt

kelowna holds regular auto-x... with the first coming up at the start of april. to arrange one on our own would be a big job and not cheap

but there is a big oval track in armpit here.
auto-x's did take place but they moved. that may be possiable for a "closed" even with only us out there.

its close to the ponds and the best back roads anywhere.

MURR
1990 Suzuki Swift GT
TOY racer

I also think going with a pre-organized meet would be best. Insurance issues, and cost of track makes it very difficult to organize one-off events where there likely won't be a 100% committment to #'s. As for the racing side, I don't think I would want to drive 7-8 hours and then risk a blown transmission/clutch/motor. Bringing up motors/transmissions/clutches would make for a bit of a long-haul through the mountains. If the car was closer to stock, I'd put the R compounds in the trunk and be all over it.

As for when... how about close to the end of July... 23,24,25,26 whenever the weekend is around there. It would be perfect for me if we are going to plan to meet in Kelowna.

There seemed to be a few people saying that Banff would be closer and better. I'm sure we could organize something seperate to suit those who didn't want to make the trip as I know we could get some Calgary guys to show some hospitality. Doesn't matter much to me.

-Kyle Jones
Junk-Yard Turbo set-up, formerly NOS-fed, constantly evolving 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi
