The date is official for the 2nd Annual Great Lakes GeoPalooza - Saturday July 25th 2009

Geo Metro and all other "Econobox" owners are encouraged to join us. Members from other sites will also be invited to this gather on beautiful Lake Erie. Last year was a great success at Pymatuning Lake in NE Ohio.........

I already rented the Pavilion and will be supplying some food and refreshments. Others joining are encouraged to bring food, drinks, chips, etc to ensure everyone has a great time. There are so many thing you and the family can do in this area, so if you want to make a vacation out of this, you will not be disappointed.

Make your Hotel or Camping reservations early since Summertime is a busy time of year on Lake Erie and those of you traveling long distances should take note of other members profiles and locations and message each other if you want to pair up on the journey. It's not official, but I may also open up my property for camping/bonfire if some of you need something to do the night before or after the meet.

Some members will be staying at Geneva State Park and several members have already reserved spots#25 - #29 there. Here is a link............

Lake Village campground always has camping spots available (no reservations available) and it's close to the Drive-In...........

hi, new to the forums, but i've been checking out and reading info on this site for a while. that sounds like a good time. i'm from northwest ohio, and i will try to plan to attend. there's lots to do around lake erie, and put in bay is a blast. i'm not sure how far that is from where the meet is, i haven't mapquested it yet. i hope the geo is still in good working order for the meet. i'll check back on it at a later date.

Not at the actual meet since no alchohol is permitted on the park land, but you can drink at the Drive-In theater. I also plan on a bonfire at my place possible, so yeah :drunk:

The Ashtabula Park Commissioner has approved my request for the grassy area where the car shows are held to be used for us to display our rides. The area is less than 20 feet from where the pavilion is and this will be great where we can have all our rides in one place and not worry about parking.

Some members will be staying at Geneva State Park and CoyoteX (Rick) has already reserved spot #29 there. Here is a link............
http://www.ohiodnr.com/parks/geneva/tab ... fault.aspx

Spots are filling fast, so make reservations!

Lake Village campground always has camping spots available (no reservations available) and it's close to the Drive-In...........
http://lakevillagecampground.com/home.html

There is a Days Inn in Conneaut, Ohio which is close to the meet and the lake.

As far as I know, CoyoteX will be bringing his Hybrid Metro XFi Vert and Ben Nelson will be towing down his self converted "Electro-Metro" to the meet. Seeing these cars in person will be a real treat!

It's official! The Ashtabula County park commissioner has approved our group to use the grassy area where the car shows are held for our Metros! Here is a pic of the area. Sorry it's dark, but you can see the pavilion on the right and the grassy area we will be lined up on and the lake and beach is right there.........
Image

Don't be ashamed to park your Metro or other econobox in line because this is going to be fun and most of our rides are not pretty anyway, so polish them turds!

I am starting an attendance list for those interested in coming to the gather. This is because other people may want to meet up on the road and travel together for the trip which benefits everyone! Let me know if you need added or removed from the list. These are people from GeoMetroForum, TeamSwift, Ecomodder, Automotive Forums, etc........

I'm trying my best to have the engine back together in the Mk1 to make it up there. If I make it, survey_says82 will try to make it too.

Looking forward to this meet! It's going to be pretty large from what I can gather. The park where we are having the meet is always packed with people. I will have a few people in charge of lining up our Metro/Swift cars during the meet and keeping them separate from any other econoboxes that show up.

Bring your cameras!

Geopalooza 2009 was fun and the weather was decent. Lots of people showed up and the food was great. For me, the trip up was pretty uneventful except for the heavy rain. The trip back was another story. Less than an hour into the trip back, things in the car started acting funny. I turned on my headlights and my radio shut off. I looked at my voltometer only to see it was way lower than normal. I had no idea where any parts stores were in the area, but I knew that if I could make it to Massillon, I knew where the Autozone was. Well, there was no way the battery would hold out till then. Luckily, as I was about to come up to the exit for Stow, I looked to my right and saw an Autozone. I quickly made the exit and found my way to the store. Just as I was pulling into the lot, the ignition started cutting out and I barely made it into the parking spot. I bought a battery, installed it and had them check the charging system. Sure enough, there was no alternator output. (I'm not sure if it's the alternator or wiring yet.) I bought a second battery just in case because I still had 1.5hrs to drive. The first battery made it all the way home. But before I made it home, I stopped for gas and started having carb problems. For some reason, it wants to idle high. I mean really high, around 3500 RPM. But i did make it home and I will leave troubleshooting to another day. I'll just drive the Metro till then. All-in-all it was a fun day in Astabula.

Here are some pictures from the 2nd annual Geopalooza today (if I actually got them uploaded to Picasa). What a great event! Johnny, his wife and who knows how many others put on a great picnic and a very well organized event. Over 16 cars and probably 50-60 people, and "a fine time was had by all" :thumb

For some pics, Please go to: http://picasaweb.google.com/WobblybobH/Geopalooza09?feat=directlink

(I hope the link works)

Thanks Johnny.

Here are some photos Johnny took with his crappy camera, but don't worry, there are more photos to follow.............

Once you get the cars dialed-in (compression, leaks, bearings, alignment, brakes) swap in new rubber and glass, you've got something which should last for years!
