Hi all, The 2010 NorthWest Meet was a fantastic meet. The verts were cool, i am now thinking of saving my pennies, American ones, to purchase one.

Knuckles, I forgot to tell you that the 1944 V nickel is worth between 20 cents to 5 dollars, depends on the coin buyer.....................

The proposed meeting on the 3rd weekend in July sounds good. Has my vote ..............

I hope the "GeoPalooza West" Reno, NV Meet April 30th-May 1st 2010 was great for those who attended. My wife April and I are enjoying the new 47" LCD TV.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

As Ms. G-Whiz put it, yesterday was a "Me day".
Those pictures of me... I'm holding my camera phone in all of them... How come I didn't have more pictures??!?

It started with meeting Ed (Metro Mike) at the Lacey Huntamer park Alternative Energy Fair next door to where I work, to pick up some Swift headlights for Dust Bucket, visiting the vendor booths, checking out the all-electric conversion and hybrid cars on display, and taking in part of the first of two races involving electric go-carts...

Notice the lack of exterior door handles on this Metro!

From there, it was off to the Metro meet...

On the way home I stopped to pick up dinner at Freight House square, an old converted train station below the Tacoma Dome where I snapped a few pictures of the following transportation-related theme... what can I say? WOW!!! I wish I had taken a picture of the Seattle Space Needle that stands slightly taller than me, but now that I think about it, I wouldn't have been able to get the whole thing in the picture with my camera phone.

Some of the things I learned:
In order to mount the new headlight assemblies on Dust Bucket, I have to replace the existing headlight plugs with H4 plugs, and... I have to pop the fenders off to remove an outer bracket on the back side of the existing headlight assemblies.
Never use the petroleum-based Armor All on the plastic pieces inside the cars. Knuckles recommends the Meguiar's Gold Class Traim Detailer for that and the weather stripping around the doors and windows.

I have a stick shift knob that's coated with a sticky substance that I can't clean off. Turns out the plastic compound is breaking down and the only solution is to replace it.
My replacement seats in Dust bucket do not sit level in the car. Looking at them through the fron windshield, it's obvious that the back of the seats tip outward toward the doors. This is because the floor pan is different in the vert from the regular Metro body. Only the standard vert seats are designed to compensate for the difference. The Metro seats that I installed using the original vert rails are not. The only option I seem to have is to shim up the rear, door-side mounting points.
The parts stores say there is only one alternator available for the verts, but I learned the alternators for the Swift are interchangeable with the vert. That means I can get a larger (55 amp?) Swift alternator to replace the standard-size (35 amp?) alternator in Dust Bucket.
If I'm going to run high power lamps in the new headlight assemblies, I should install and wire them up through separate relays rather than have all that current running through the headlight switch. That explains why the wrecking yard vert I got parts off of last year had relays wired for the headlights!

Count me in too. Not sure at this point if one weekend would be better than the other.

Man... those pictures... It's weird how they remind me that it's like being on a treasure hunt every time I go!
