YOU'RE INVITED!

On Saturday July 13th I am hosting Westiva 2013 which is primarily a meet and greet for Festiva and Aspire fans and owners. This is the sixth annual edition of the meet and we have decided to send an invite out to fans and owners of other econoboxes from the same era.

So consider yourself invited!

Here are a few details...

When: Saturday July 13th, 2013
Where: Wedge Pond Day Use Area, Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada (about a one hour drive from Calgary's western city limits).
What: Meet and greet at the pond in the morning. After a picnic lunch we'll take an afternoon 30km cruise to grab an ice cream cone at Boulton Creek Trading Post (yes it's worth the drive :D) and then on to the Upper Kananaskis Lake.
Why: why not?

Here's a video one of our members took a couple of years ago. http://youtu.be/OohTKJBnwyE

Oh hey there friend. Nice to see you around these parts. I'm going to do my best to attend whether I'm in the Festiva or the Forsa. Might be stuck working though. Probably gonna camp out in the car again though if I do make it!

That's just great appreciate the invite, I have wondered where all the swifts in the area meet at? If at all.

If I have mine on the road I will make the effort to drive out.

Only 45 days to go! We have cars coming from the Vancouver BC area, Prince Albert SK, Edmonton AB and Pasco WA including the usual locals. Looking forward to seeing some different cars this year.

Are you coming?

Some of you may be aware of the devasting floods over the past few days in Southern Alberta. We are just beginning to realize the scope of the damage done over the past few days. Here's the situation:

- Trans Canada Highway through Banff National Park is still closed to all but essential traffic and may not be open for some time.
- Highway 40, the road into the Wedge Pond area is washed out in at least four places. Go to the Alberta Parks facebook page to see some photos and video.
- Mount Kidd RV Park and Campground is heavily damaged; we had friends that were stranded until yesterday. They were evacuated by the military and had to leave their vehicles behind.
- Highway 3, the highway across the southern part of the province goes through the Crowsnest Pass which saw its own share of damage, is picking up the extra traffice that would normally use the Trans Canada
- Lots of damage within the city of Calgary itself
- Many communities in the area have been hard hit, especially High River

All that being said my family and I have decided to cancel Westiva for this year. I realize that some of you have already made reservations, booked vacation time, made travel plans etc. but we feel that this is the best course of action to take.

Here's to next year!
