I had a chance to purchase a new set of springs for the MK1 from another member on the forum. They are made by PI in the UK and lower the car 35mm (claimed, I have not checked yet). I've read mixed reviews about their products on different UK forums, but went ahead and purchased them anyway. Now I've only had them in for a few 30 mile trips but the difference between stock and the stiffer lowering springs was immediately noticeable. The ride is much smoother IMHO. The KYB GR2 shocks seem to work better with the stiffer lowering springs. The car feels glued to the ground over every bump rather than having the tires, with the stock springs, get slammed into the ground by the shocks. (03/15/2006)

Edit: Doh! 35mm is about 1.4inches.
