Its nice to be able to bring a simple tool somewhere without having to pull a compressor behind you...

That being said I thought I would try this electric orbital and see how it stacks up to an air powered unit. A nice air orbital is pretty much impossible to beat but this one works very good and I use it a lot. Thats a good thing because most compressor rated to allow use of a sander are large, 240V, expensive, and a PITA to shove into the trunk of most vehicles ;). Been doing some enclosures with it and it hasn't given me any problems. It has adjustable speed which is a nice feature when your working with different materials. It comes with a nice long cord that lets you work on bigger projects without having a big heavy extension cord pulling at the tool whenever you try to reach with it. The only caveat I have with it is the filter they attach to it. It works well and filters out a lot of dust but it also has a tendency to get in the way when working in tight areas of a project. It also vibrates (something I think all electric orbitals will do) more than an air tool becasue there is no foam backing to absorbe it. Its a pretty inexpensive tool which is a major bonus because the unit works so well. So far I've only used it to sand autobody type materials but they are typicaly some of the hardest on tools (because the dust is so fine it gets into every little crack) so I see no reason why it wouldn't work on anything else well. If you have easy access to an air unit this won't be something that you'll use alot because an air unit is definetly better. This is definetly something you should look inot though if you don't have access to a good compressor or tend to take tools with you on jobs.
