I am just about done with the rebuild on the 98 SOHC 16 valve engine.
Here are a few pictures for you all. I can stop here or I can give you a
long post with lots of pictures of the rebuild. Your call. If I can't get the
GT DOHC 16 valve engine tuned for 40 mpg+ at 70 mph, this engine will go back
into the car. I got 45.75 mpg at 70 mph with this engine that needed rebuilding.

Is that a dohc exhaust manifold on a 16 valve Sohc engine?

Would the rebuild process be somewhat like a g13ba 8 valve?

Yes that is a GT exhaust manifold. 3 mounting holes have to be milled for alignment with the SOHC 16 valve head.
All of the exhaust ports in the manifold had to be dropped almost a 0.250" for alignment and not be a restrictive flow.
EGR port in the exhaust manifold was blocked off as this engine does not use an EGR system.
The engine rebuilds are the same until you get to the head.
The 98 16 valve head is totally different then the 8 valve head and the GT head.
FYI there is a roller cam setup for the 8 valve heads. I have one.
I need the 2 to 1 exhaust pipe that goes from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe.

The 2 to 1 GT pipe is in my opinion pretty restrictive. I'll keep my eye out for one. There is always the BC Vancouver craigslist adds with a lot of GT cars being parted. The bad is most will not ship across the border. 40 mpg average at 70 with the GT I suppose is possible. I'm getting 32 mpg average with mixed and in excess of 70 mph. The 15's and the car being lowered will probably get you there already.
