So I was on the phone with my dad yesterday and we were discussing the Swift Project. The 3.8L was brought up...then the Grand National 3.8 was brought up about going into the swift. It would be a freaking monster!

Does anyone know if this has successfully been accomplished? I know it'll take a lot of money to get one of those things into the swift...but oh man will it be worth it!! haha... :)

Yes it has been done, but I can't think of the guys name. I believe 'metro' is part of the name.

Asking a question and then answering it yourself....

I believe it was $10,000 or more to do the swap. If I won the lottery, I'd probably do something like that, it's definately a little eccentric, if not crazy to some people.

The car isnt a metro anymore.

It's a tube frame with a buick motor that happens to be covered with a geo body for the "sleeper" look.

ever expect a 9 second Geo ? of course not!!

I dunno about you, but $10k for a 9 second car is a bargain! Most people have $15k into a $20,000 $40,000 car to get to 9 seconds. And when you're running 9 seconds, most cars aren't quite themselves anymore. But full of steel tubing, creature conforts removed, etc.. It's VERY hard to make a daily driver, and 9 second car. And you sure won't do it for $10k, unless you have a Supra or Skyline

there's a huge gap between

1 (the 10k option)- rolling the tube frame car out of the trailer, making a 9 second pass and rolling it back in the trailer

2 (the 40k car with 20k mods on it) driving the car to the track, doing 9 seconds then driving it again to go back home.

not much "street cars" can run 9 seconds. that GN Geo is certainly not what you can call a "street car"...

While it's true, there ain't much Geo left of the car, it is undoubtly the fact that it is a Geo that makes the car stand out. Nobody looks at the car and says, "did you see that tube frame non-streetable car just run a 9?" They say "Did you just see that freakin' sick, insane, retarded, stupid (whatever) GEO METRO just run a 9?!!!" Where I race at, there are plenty of full size cars doing the single digit but no other compact going 157mph in the quarter. And the car WILL run an 8 this year, I'd put money on it.

No, it's really not a street car, it's waaaaay too loud inside but it IS completly street legal. Horn, lights, plates, insurance... I drive it occasionally on the street but not for too far because it just plain sucks on the street. The loud as heck fuel pump and 3 1/2" exhaust don't help much. However, I did do a bunch of work to the car so I could do the Hot Rod Drag Week with it, including this...

If you're near Cordova Dragway park this summer, look for a satin black Metro pulling a trailer with a fiddy and a Jr. Dragster on the trailer behind it. Me and my boy will be driving there, racing and going home in it.
