A noob question here. My 89 swift GTi transmission went bad and I'm going to replace it. I found a few transmissions (one from an 89 geo metro base model, and another one off a 93 XFI geo metro). I was wondering if these would fit the swift? I'll be getting it as soon as possible so any help is much appreciated.

I threw a 90 turbo3 transmission onto the GTi engine swap I did. Everything should fit, but they recommend you upgrade your clutch to cope with the added ponies. And if you already have a clutch for the GTi, maybe it would be worth it investing in a new clutch just because you have everything apart.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did end up buying a new clutch since I was going to replace the tranny. So basically putting in a Geo Metro tranny should be a direct fit then?

The base model Metro should have the same final drive as your GTi. The XFi has a taller final drive. Good for MPG, but not so good for acceleration.

I just bought a tranny off of geo metro base model today. I'm guessing despite the final drive of it being close to the GTi, the overall acceleration will be slightly affected? I was really looking for a GTi tranny, but this was the best I could do with. Hopelly the difference is not that noticeable.

Question already answered.
