I found a 98 1.3L SOHC engine in good shape to replace the one my daughter toasted (Oil filter came loose on the freeway, and oil pressure sending unit wire was broken).
This is the year that has the coilpacks mounted on the end of the head where the distributor used to be, and has multipoint injection.
Does anyone know of any problems if I strip the head and use this engine in my 99?
Will the valve cover from my 99 fit?
There don't appear to be too many differences...

Thanks 3Tech. It *looks* like everything will go together okay- I assume I should just leave the disconnected coilpacks on the end of the head to keep it sealed.

It will be fine. Use your 99 vc and everything else off the 98 should work fine in the 99. You can take the coils off. They dont seal anything. Iirc the 99s even use the same cam sensor housing that has the coil mounts as the 98. If not swap over the 99 end piece and noone will know the difference.
