I recently bought a '98... and it seems way more zippy than a '97 I bought a couple years ago (and converted to full-electric). I will be selling this engine soon, and would like to know if it is stock, or probably a swap or replacement. ODO reads 204k miles, and this thing seems to have lots of life left, so maybe someone will want it....

so, what's your guess? is this a '98, or likely a transplant from something else?

cool, it might have some resale value then. The 1.6L is certainly better than the older one I have driven w/ the 1.3L ;)

I bought the car for fairly cheap because the interior is in great shape and no dents. paint is not good so I'll have to either paint or do a vinyl wrap. Swifts make great electric cars... small, light, still fit 4 adults plus 'stuff' around town.

I have the whole process documented at envirokarma.org

that should be a sohc 16 valve g13 1.3 liter engine. if it's a 1.6 liter engine then it is probably a transplant. the 1.6 was in the tracker/ sidekick and looks pretty much the same.

look for the "g13" cast cast into the front, flywheel end of the block just under the head.

Yeah I doubt its a 1.6

Its not exactly a bolt in swap. But yes the sohc 16v g13 does run pretty good.

yes it is. the 00-01 had coil packs right on the cylinder head (for #2 and #4), 98-99 had something half-way in between.
