Well my engine change is going pretty well concidering the cold and doing most of the work myself. I pulled the new motor and brought it home in the trunk of my dads lumina :D I only have the rear trans mount left on my car and it will be time to re-assemble. I will probbly need some guidence hooking up all the electrical and vacume lines.

I do have one question I know the topic of tachs has come up before but i cant seem to find the answer to my question. What wiring changes need to be made so i can put a cluster with a tach from a 92 vert' in my car?

Here are some pics of my work in progress :)

Take it from me, it's WAY more work then it's worth, just use the gti tach.

are you just swapping the 3 cyl out? (putting the 3 back in?) then just get a turbo tach! no wiring required! :)

I would use a gti tach but I cant find any gti's or tubo spints in my local yards. I am putting a 3cyl back in my car for that reson. I found a 92 metro lsi convertable 1.0l 5sp with a tach. What is diffrent between the gti tach and the lsi tach? BTW I am gessing on the year of the vert' becouse the front end is gone and the sticker on the body is illegable.

well the 3 cyl. tach is for a car that has 3 ignition pulses for every 2 revolutions, while the 4 cyl. tach has 4 ignition pulses for every 2 revs ...
assuming all the wiring was the same, you'd just get a 25-33% higher/lower reading if they were interchanged ...
of course my math may be a touch off ..
many aftermarket tachs have a switchable setting on them for 4, 6, or 8 cylinders (3 is pretty rare).

So a tach from a 3cyl car will work in another 3cyl car without any mods?
