i was the staff engineer for a medium size industrial motor repair shop. i designed, assembled, installed, and repaired industrial machinery and controls. i also did all the custom calculations for repairing ac and dc motors.

the frames of the alternators for our cars are really small and it's pretty tough to get enough wire in them to make 110 amps. at best those alternators would work with an extremely shortened life. my personal opinion the auction listing is optimistic.

that alternator would make 110 amps for an instant just as lightning hit your car. =)

And the fact they claim 110 amps at 1200 rpm. I would run. An alt should put out max amp output at about 3500-4000 or it won't last very long.

Rich, I know this post is old but I had to reply

Having spent 15 years in the 12 volt aftermarket industry as an installer, I feel the duty to catch you up on the lingo the crazy kids are using these days

This alternator you were referring to and it’s rating is what is now called the “ILS rating”

If Lightning Strikes ...... the 12v battery terminal of whatever device the rating is attached to

The phrase was adopted sometime before y2k after being modified from “when lightning strikes”

The modification of the synonym was deemed necessary by IASCA, MECP, and several other sanctioning bodies

While lightning surely might strike a vehicle, the chances of such are greatly exaggerated and using “when” in an unofficial rating of cheap aftermarket garbage just didn’t seem like the right thing to advocate

=)

The information above is not indorsed nor confirmed by IASCA, MECP, me, or any sanctioning body

Obviously I’m bored

Its pretty common for Samurai owners to install GM alternator on the g13a. you can get 100+ amps that way. There are several vendors who sell the brackets to do the mod.
