In my 98 1.0L 5speed car. When you first start it it idles high for maybe 30 seconds or so and then smooths out to about a grand. When I revved it, I only pushed hard enough to make it jump about 500rpm. When it goes back to idle after revving it acts like its about ready to die(stutters hard) and then it starts running irratically and the motor shakes like its trying to jump out of the engine bay. I'm not too familiar with the electronic controls on this motor and was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this type of behavior. Any help is definitely appreciated.

How does it act when it's fully warm? It almost sounds like the engine thinks it's warm when it's not. Also, what the ambient temp of the outside air?

Compression test.

My 4cylinder did this when basically it was only running on 2 and a half cylinders at idle.

Its been humid and around 80-85 here. The engine did warm up and it only starts shaking irratically if I rev and only after I rev it.

The motor ran fine when I brought it home. No problems at all. Then I left the battery unplugged which may have reset the computer and done something?

Seems to be running good at idle, doesn't miss a beat until I make the needle jump.

So it doesn't do it when the engine is cold? When it does it the engine is warm. Will it continue to do it if you rev and hold the revs at say 2000 rpm or is it only at idle?

2nd O2 sensor was bad. Replaced today with a used unit I had lying around and no codes and no shake. Runs like a 1.0 should. Also did some repair work that was needed on the exhaust(blown donut and leak before the resonator)
