Just installed econo cam and +10* cam sprocket. Motor fired right up and runs out really smooth. Performance was decent at first, but has noticeably dropped off after first 200 miles, to the point now it feels like I am back where I started before the cam, and actually maybe a little worse mileage. My gauge is a mountain pass I drive once a week. Right after the swap I could take it in 4th at about 60. This week I couldn't take it at more than 50, and was about to downshift into 3rd (which I would have done if my pride hadn't stopped me)!

After install I timed per manual procedures (with jumper in diagnostic port) back to original setting of 6* BTDC. Yesterday I adjusted to about 12* with a little seat of the pants change. The distributor is advanced as far as it will go at this point. To gain any more I will have to advance the cam a gear and start over.

My other thoughts were to check fuel filter and/or catalytic converter, perhaps timing belt. Other than that, I'm kind of stumped. Thanks for any help.

Your timing is off by a tooth, 10* advanced should be around the center of the dist movement, the +10 gear makes it off by about 1/2 tooth, so its very easy to move the gear the wrong way to set it, take it off and move the gear one tooth, try it again, not sure which direction it needs to go, maybe someone else with more experience will chime in.

Thanks for the heads up. That was going to be my next move. Do you know if this is an "interference" motor? Will it bung up the valves if I am off a tooth or two?

Thanks guys! That was the problem. Definitely did the trick. Now we'll see how she takes the pass. I'll let you know on Tuesday.
