failing oil pump or horribly worn main bearings (or both.) find out before you wreck the engine. raising the idle speed won't fix mechanical problems but will hasten the grenading of the engine.

it's true that the pressure relief valve pops at 55 psi but chunks of crap in the unfiltered oil that gets sucked up out of the sump can jam the valve open. the oil filter is located after the oil pump and the only thing between the sump and the pump is a fairly coarse screen in the pickup tube.

Bah... The manual scans are online...

50-70psi at 4000rpm

Idiot light is set to trigger at 4.5psi.

The oil pressure switch is probably faulty. :)
