I just put a mk4 1.3 sohc engine in my 93 metro. I cant find much love for these engines on this forum. Especially for performance. We are limited to the tbi i suppose. But i had some crazy ideas. Im doing a pnp on a sidekick head and fitting it with mikes 395/226.. im also going to turbo this situation. I have been reading up on it and the gm tbi from the smaller 2.8 engines have two injectors the run at 1.5 ohms. Each. If one could do it right make a manifold to support the gm tbi on the g13, i could use a pressure switch to turn the second injector on under boost. one injector can support the car when in hg..

Gimme some feedback

also,
Does anyone know whether the metro injectors are positive or ground fire?

I think it would be easier to adapt a gti manifold or better yet, go itb.

That stuff is hard to come by. At least in the states. Gm tbis are everywhere.

Use the 1.6 intake and tbi. If I recall, it's 44 mm vs the stock 1.3 tbi at 38

Injectors are triggered by ground. Most Gm 2.5L 4cyls used a single barrel TBI unit that could be adapted quite easily and have adequate flow.

the tb injector is supplied with battery voltage via the fuel injection relay through a big resistor. the ecu sinks voltage (conducts voltage to ground) through an injector driver transistor located in the ecu.

changing the injector to some other sized injector without the ability to control fuel mapping could be a planned failure. switching in a secondary injector based on charge pressure is a brute force type of control. i set up a hobbs switch to fire the cold start injector on a turbo3 system and ran that way for a while, but again, without some programmable engine management system the afr goes way to the rich side. the secondary injector might keep the piston crowns from getting holes melted in them (for a while) but too much fuel can put the limit on hp as badly as too little fuel.

i'm not saying that you can't do it but you'd have to be really lucky to have the electronic control's slope match the mechanical performance of the larger injectors. chances are that the afr wouldn't be right at any point with the stock ecu. suprf1y's suggestion of the 1.6l injector wouldn't be too far off but i think that the dual injector tbi scheme without proper fuel management, especially in a boosted configuration, is an engine killer.

Well originally i was going to use the sidekick tbi. However the fuel injector housing is still a big airflow restriction. It got me thinking so i took a walk in my local junk yard. And the gm tbi is what i came up with.

Awesome. My first successful post with my uploaded pictures. Good faq page.

I picked up a tracker 8valve head. Im going to port match it to the new manifold. And im still searching the best way to port the exhaust. Any advice welcome. Next im making makin exhaust manifold but i need to make trip to parts store to get a gasket to match.

Update

I was porting the exhaust sunday and found a water jacket. No good. Not sure wat to do. I filled the water jacket with jb weld but not sure what to do. I guess i got too greedy trying to take out a little bit of that sharp turn we all hate. The intake side went well matched the gasket and cleaned th machining edges at valve entry and exit.

Jb weld on the exhaust side wont last too long, better get it tigged.

I too like the SOHC head but from the vitara g16a as it has bigger inlet valves for starters
also 8 valves is simple on a Gt bottom end should be awesome. g13b bottom ends are
better due to crank and rods and bore it up to 75mm and use vitara pistons also.

Alright. Need input. I bought all 8 new stainless valves and not sure if i should lap them and call it good or spend 140 bucks for a valve job...?

Another update. Ive been polishing and unshrouding the combustion chamber. Polished up intake and exhaust runners except bottom of intake was left rough to keep fuel from puddling.

looking the goods! I think g13b rods would be good if not the same
always wanted to know how much hp an 8v head could make boosted and NA

Keep it up man. You have such an awesome advantage that you can fab your own everything. Also, take more pictures of EVERYTHING. I love seeing the inventiveness of Swifters and turbo builds. That's how I managed to staple and glue my setup together.

I need specific valve lash clearances for the g13 8 valve. I have mine set now to .008 intake. And .010 exhaust. Measured between lobe and rocker. I just read a couple post that said otherwise. Please enlighten me.

looking good! just make sure you have a bracket for the turbo as itll be too heavy not to crack the mani somewhere. interested to see the results as the 8v is underrated!!!
