I've been lurking for a wile, and learning a lot here about my recently acquired 99 Swift. great forum!! thank you!!
I've also been into street rods for quite a few years, and since owning my 99 Swift the thought has occured to me to use a G13 in……. oh, I duno, perhaps a full fendered T coupe? The thought of a 35 MPG street rod might start a new trend ;) I assume the bell housing is unique to the FWD trans ? and if so, an adaptor would need to be built? anyone done this yet??

Cheers,
Russ

I think they will bolt up to a Sidekick/Tracker 2 wheel drive tranny.

All the G series engines share a bellhousing pattern as far as I know. Was/am kicking around the idea of a turbo GTI engine in my 1960 comet to replace the I6. Would be more powerful and probably get better mileage too.

This was at the local car show this summer, used the engine out of an LJ I believe, 660cc? shoulda wrote it down, guy was pretty cool chatted with him for a bit.

g10 and g13 share a bellhousing pattern. g16 is different. trust me.

as for the 1.3 sidekick....kind of a rare bird. first couple years base model only from what i could find. i had to look that one up.

Yup. now that's what I'm talking about. if he'd lose the front wheels, and the erector set frame, it would be durn near to perfect (IMHO).
What is an "LJ" by the way?

Sidekick / Tracker trannies were available for the 1.3, one year only, 1989. After that all NA kicks/trackers were 1.6's.

Samurai trans will bolt right up to the G13B, as the blocks are the same. Problem is, there is no speedo drive on a samurai trans, it's taken off the t. case(even with 2wd samurai's, they have a dummy t.case). The track kick trannies have a speedo output and are stronger. More better-er.

The bottom outside bellhousing bolts are spaced further on a 1.6 setup. I have a 1.3 G13B that I'm dropping in my 77 colt, using a 2wd track / kick 1.6 trans. Going to make an adapter plate for the union, as you can't readily buy the 1.3 engine / 1.6 trans adapters. 1.6 engine / 1.3 trans adapters you can find at any samurai website, about $100 for the kit IIRC (I did that swap on a samurai once).

I'll be doing a writeup on it here in the conversions section with lots of pics, I'll post a link up once I start it (this weekend hopefully as I just picked up all the trans components Monday).
