So, I had a badly smoking 1.3 in a 97. I had a spare 96 1.3 laying around that was a good runner, so we swapped it into the 97.

We changed over all the parts on the front of the engine for the crank sensor and the complete intake. we know these parts worked because they came off the original smoking engine.

The motor fires for one complete cycle (all four fire once) and immediately dies.

Anything we missed?

cam angle sensor? did you use the distributor from the newer car?

No, we didn't change the distributor. We didn't see any difference in the wiring between the two, so assumed they were the same. We'll try that.

ralph, i've run into the old distributor deal when exchanging older and newer engines. they sneak in a change of those modules in some years and i seem to recall 96 to 97 as one of those production changes.

they're pretty much like that with the map sensors, too. it's best to work from the part labels or numbers for some sensor supercessions.

Swapped the dizzie. Purring like a kitten. The car is nearly ready to head down to Vancouver for my buddy's daughter. Thanks again Richard from my buddy and more importantly, ME. Now soon, I can get my cars in the shop, FINALLY. HOORAY!!
