Hi,

I'm a bit desperate for some useful advice.

The first/second gear synchros finally gave out on my factory trans (5-speed) at about 420k. Had a rebuilt G10 ready to go, along with a used tranny purchased several years ago.

I cracked the used tranny and, according to all the posts I've read/photos I've seen, it was absolutely pristine; no gear grind, synchros looked liked the ones in the rebuild kit I ordered.

Bolted all together, out with the old, in with the "new." New starter, which began by turning over the motor, but now just sounds like it's straining to turn the engine, even with plugs removed. Battery's good, shows just over 12v, even put a jump on it when I thought that might be the problem.

Weird thing: cranking engine by hand rotates the wheels, but rotating the wheels doesn't move the engine; tested that by dropping soda straws into the cylinders, no movement at all when I turn either wheel.

Anyone have any insight that might solve one or more of my problem?

Motor should spin fairly easily by hand and by starter.

Raise only one wheel off ground and spin it in gear, should spin engine.

Battery sounds bad, it should be 12.6volts.

Also if there is any load applied, it can short out internally and drag down the jumper current too.

Use a new battery..... otherwise the motor is binding up or something isnt right.
