Post subject:  Mark I pistons?

I am using a Mark I engine in an (naturally aspirated) off road application. What would be the highest compression stock style pistons? I did a search in this topic for "pistons" and read every thread but didn't really find an answer. I saw mention of other Suzuki pistons, but nothing specific. I don't have a problem with adding
new valve reliefs if needed. I want something fairly cheap and easy to find (no budget for custom pistons on this project).

building a new engine for your little pulling tractor? :D

there's a guy over on out in california who may have a complete bottom end for you.

he built a salt flats speed car and had the next high compression trick crank assembly left over after he quit racing.

If you don't mind boring the block then the D16 pistons are an option and you can probably get up to about 13-1 or more

Yes, it is a pulling tractor.
I don't want to go too radical. The sanctioning group wants to keep them fairly close to stock and keep
the competition somewhat affordable.

Boring the cylinders isn't out of the question. I haven't torn it down yet so I'm not sure it needs pistons. But I'm planning for worst case scenario.

What are D16 pistons? What vehicle do I look them up for?

Is there anything else that would give just a slight bump in compression without boring? I could also shave the head, but I figured if there are some slightly better pistons, I could do that as well.

I think I saw Vitara pistons mentioned. What is the deal with them?

Low compression, bad choice for just about any application.

Machine the head, it's the least $$ option. What are you running for a cam? That will have a stronger influence on your compression requirements.

i agree with mike that vitara pistons aren't what you want for an all motor build. i used a set in a turbo3 build, supplied by jardamuth, that will work okay when i add 18 pounds of boost. :-P

while you have suprf1y's ear, he's the one who has taken over the high compression piston group buy ordering. he should be able to hook you up and machine the crowns to make any base compression you want. :wink:

and don't discount my suggestion to contact murf. he might make you a helluva' deal on his complete rotating assembly. i believe that he had the crank and components balanced as well. if i recall from the pics i saw, he had the crank throws knife edged, too.

you don't have to worry a lot about valve reliefs on your mk1 g10. they weren't interference engines to begin with. :wink:

i was at a tractor pull a few years ago and saw a silver king tractor that had been re-fitted with a metro engine. he placed very well with it. 8)

I figured I'd get in touch with you for a cam when I get to that point.
If stock is 9.5:1 I wouldn't be opposed to going up to 11:1 compression. I'd like to be
able to run 94 pump gas. I know the cam will have some effect on the compression as well.
I have no idea what shape the engine is in so I'll have to wait till I get it apart.

Most times getting it( the motor) apart is no probemo.
It the putting the engine back together That for most is the hardest part
