Hi
I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it would be to switch from the rear drum brakes on my Turbo Sprint to the disc brakes from a GTI? I have the brakes but I did not want to get started & find out it doesnt work. Is there any real benefit to doing this swap?

Sprint GTI

If you have the calipers and rotors, that's a start. Next you'll need the GTi rear wheel hubs, and the GTi brake valve. You may or many not need new brake lines for the back. I would get them just in case Good luck.

Depends on whether you're fitting the larger front brakes from the GTi. In that case yes. personally, i can't tell any difference fitting rear discs on a saloon, but then my brake system is always in tip top condition.

Iain

from an engineering standpoint, the swept area of the disc brakes over the drum brakes isn't increased to any great degree. i just tossed a set of kevlar brake shoes on new drums on my t3 project and like the improved braking effect without all the work of swapping to the discs.

of course i drive sensibly and only get on the brakes really hard on the autocross course on sundays.

So whats the verdict on Mk2 GTi rear disc brake swap to Mk1 Turbo Sprint . Anyone completed that project ? Any pictures , directions ? I already have front swaped but rears did not look possible , some of you sounded fairly confident about it so send pictures of you swap completed . If they dont work any better at least they look great , so why not if its possible .
