Hi all,

I have the opportunity to purchase a '91 turbo firefly but I'm fairly unfamiliar with these cars. I did have an older MK1 firefly that died a slow death a few years ago.

The '91 in question was pulled behind a motorhome. The owner says only 38,000 km but the speedo reads 280,000km because it was towed/pulled. They're asking $2500CAD.

I'm just wondering what you all think. Is that price too high? What issues do I need to be aware of? What about parts? (performance or otherwise)

I really liked my old firefly & really would like another one....especially a turbo!

Cheers,

Elaine

Hi Elaine

If the speedo reads 280,000 KM it has that .
The big issue is to check for Rust / rocker panels / floor / front frame / etc.
A couple of pics would be nice to see to assist you .

Wouldn't pulling the car behind a motorhome affect the mileage?

cowtown is not a location.

at $2500 for that car it'd be in my driveway now. take too long thinking about something like that and someone else will buy it!

It's 20mins from my house, but I'm done grabbing them. Looks really nice, all indicators are that its been well maintained from what the ad says. It's been on for awhile, basically zero interest in these cars lately here. I think the price is decent if it's nice underneath. Every time I look at a "rust-free" one, it's always so bad underneath it's no longer safe. I could possibly look at this one for you and pretty much tell you if it's worth it or not. Pm me if you want a second opinion on it. It very well may be as nice as pictured, and worth buying.

I've never understood people calling Calgary 'CowTown' since most of the girls are quite desirable...

But, HogTown... That's a completely different story.

Hi guys,

I saw the add for that car in Kijiji, the car is actually in Ponoka I think. That is also where Cody76 leaves, he knows these cars inside out same as Ragtop. You might get his opinion on the car, chances are he knows about this car since it is so close to him. My 2 cents on the issue, I would get it but I already have to many cars to get one more.... inspect the floors as that where you would find most of the trouble.

Cheers

Check the front A-arm mount as well. That's the main reason for retiring these cars.

Where did they tow it? If they spent most of their winters pulling it around the southern 'States, it's believable. On the other hand, even the pics you took show that parts of the body don't match. The hood, for example, and the passenger rear quarter. I'd wonder about that.

Still, a good price and a great place to negotiate from. And if you don't buy it, let me know, I have friends in Cow-girlie!

Full disclosure: I have a 188k '91 Turbo Sprint, and it has been bullet-proof mechanically (except for the $700/year exhaust habit it used to have before I replaced the whole thing with stainless -- but that's another story). If you have a chance to own one of these quickly-disappearing gems, grab it and drive it like you stole it. They are a lot -- A LOT (!!!) -- of fun, and they don't ask much in return for putting that smile on your face.

Joe

buy it before I do

I could always use another turbo car in my fleet!

mileage means nothing unless its a insurance company

I will be in red deer in nov, ponoka is not to far from there

last turbo car I bought I paid $1500 bucks for it,blown clutch,bad struts,bad glass
and that was over ten years ago

Well actually, if I was still a Calgarian, I'd think about hiding the Cecil Hotel if its still there.
