Post subject:  Going back to oem Mk1 Turbo clutch cable length

Recently got a red 87 Turbo have put allot of time and money into getting it back as close to oem as possible. Did the clutch and various other repairs got it back on the ground started beautifully pushed clutch down and heard a quiet pop/rip and my peddle is laying against my floor. Inspecting the cable and it was due to be replaced long before I got the car does anyone have a part number or length of the factory length clutch cable or its near replacement? I'm pretty sure as with everything else I've replaced the previous owner went for budget not quality so I know it is not an oem cable. I was planning on making its maiden voyage to the DMV today so I'm limited to local parts stores but they are plentiful in my small town and someone will have it. I restrain from going into the parts store and asking these questions because the last two orders I have made could not have been further from what I needed. I looked on rock auto just to get an idea and they had cables from 26" to 32" none specified what model other than "sprint"

If no one else responds, go for the longest one with the right hardware on the ends. Too short and you'll be up the creek. Too long and you just adjust the routing to fit it under the hood.

There are 2 on eBay right now.

But I would check your clutch fork arm first.
The clutch fork shaft that sticks up the top of the tranny, has the
arm that bolts on the splines. You know that thing you attach
the end of the clutch cable to? Well you slide it on the shaft
then cinch it tight with a nut, that nut often comes loose and the
arm can shift on the shaft causing adjustment issues.

Went through this with O'Rielly's on my 88 Sprint Turbo. The correct one is PIO CA162 about $33, (the other one listed CA580@ $19.99 won't work at all, as I returned it ). Adjusting the clutch fork, like Jamal suggested, was necessary for me as well. After adjusting the clutch fork, bang it down with a hammer before tightening the nut.

Too long and you just adjust the routing to fit it under the hood.
