1st tank of gas since I set the timing to 5*. 228.5 miles/6.35 gallons = 36MPG. Dang. So I take it to get the codes checked and the EGR code (P0400). I check my EGR valve movement while the engine was warm and revving. And it moves. What would cause this code to come up and poor (for lack of better words) mileage.

Hey T Bell!
Try to get hold of a factory service manual(beg, borrow,or,,,).It has a
step by step trouble shoot section for each system. There are solenoid
valves, vacuum diaphrams, hoses and wiring to check.I helped my old
friend fix his EGR code problem,it was the pressure transducer, that
black vacuum thingy next to the aircleaner.A lot of folks have the EGR
passages clog up with carbon too, might pull it off and check the passages
. Hope this helps!! Good Luck!

NO,Man I only have a 91 and 95 FSM,our 96 models are the first year
for OBDII and have an extra vacuum solenoid that I don't have a clue
what it does.I've been looking on e-bay and just missed one last week.
Cant beat the FSM,they tell ya more than ya ever need!
