On another note my Claymer manual is crap. It doesn't have enough detail.
I keep running into things that are missing or wrong.
Hillbilly, will you give, lone, sell me your manual?
john :(

Thanks Mr. Hillbilly, Now I have a good copy of the manual.

The exhaust was too loud so I'm redoing that, and it didn't run to good. I got the carbs back together but not on the engine yet.

Then Rachel (my wife) said clean up the driveway or else. At least that's what I got out of it. I don't want to find out what or else is, and I don't like looking at the driveway, so I'm cleaning it. I'de be done this weekend but Rachels Mom is dying of pancreatic cancer. We found out this Tuesday, and we're in Springfield Or. now to support her Mom.

Sorry for the downer.

john

I've been following your project for a while. Your project represents something that the automotive industry should have been mass manufacturing for decades. The reason we build and tinker with cars is allow us to close the distance between where we are and locations and people we care to be closer to. Tending to our nests and those that dwell within it should always be our first priority. Best of luck to you and your family!

Thanks for the kind words Lihtan.
Rachels Mom in gone now. No more pain.
I spend every weekend helping sort, clean, get rid of stuff. Last Sunday I found the Will.
And of coarse hold Rachel when she cries.
She is planning to come home at the end of this month and go back to work.
I expect I will still be going back down to work on whatever.

Well, Rachel's been back for a week. We sold the double wide, if closing happens.
Two dumpster loads and 22 van loads to the good will.
And we brought a bunch of stuff home.
I can't hardly get in the garage, and the driveway is stuffed.
So now it's sort, put away, get rid of a lot of stuff.
Anyone want a couple of cats?
Some day. :alien:

Edit changed the way the pictures where called out.
EG "album]20802[/album" (left out the outside brackets)
instead of "url=http://www.teamswift.net/album_pic.php?pic_id=19030]Image[/url".

But I don't want to do that on all the pictures.

Hi all,
I sneaked off and did something on the car. :D
I didn't like cutting a hole in the swing-arm for the drive-line, so I made another one.

This is the first one.
Image

I took a drive line-from a cx 650. It has the same u-joint on the transmission as the cx 500, but the drive-line is splined into the u-joint.
I used the drive-line and whatever that thing that goes on the bevel drive from a cb-900. I cut and machined the drive-lines as shown in the picture below.
Image

The one drive-line plugs into the other.
I also made a sleeve to weld on for strength.
Image

I welded the drive-lines, smoothed the weld, and straightened the drive-line.
Image

Slid the sleeve over the first weld and welded it on and straightened the drive-line again. Then I machined the sleeve concentric.
Image

Then I sanded it smooth.
Image

Then I polished it. Purty.
Image

Here are the parts ready to go together. The snap-ring goes way down inside the part on the left.
Image

I couldn't find a long snap-ring pliers, so I made my own :D .
Image

Pretty cool.
Image

The first one, the new one, and the off-cuts.
Image

Until I can sneak off again, by.
john :D :D

enlighten the grasshopper ?
why not make the sleave with a 90* cutoff
instead of the tapered ends
will the tapers affect balance?

Hi there,
My thinking was....
When a shaft fails in torsion, it will brake in a spiral at 45 degrees.
I think my welds are weaker than the metal they are welding, so I cut the sleeve at 45 degrees to have more weld in the week point.
As far as balance goes it is statically balanced, but not dynamically balanced.
Time will tell if I made a big mistake.
If it's a small mistake, or I'm right, it will work fine.
I'm not going to worry about it.
john =) :D :D

Hi, I've been trying to get rebuild parts for my e-brake caliper.blaaah:
Because I used parts off different bikes, and I have a memory like a trap door, it's hard to get the right parts.
So I'm posting what I need here. So I have a chans of finding it again.
Rear brake parts:
CB900C Custom 1980-1981 (REAR), CB900C 1981 (FRONT)

Kit Includes The Following HONDA OEM Equivalent Part:
45107-415-006 43x41mm

Working on the swing-arm assembly with breaks, so I can put it back on.

I don't know what happened.
My pictures are still in my user gallery.

Any one know what's up?
john

Edit: I changed the way my pictures are referenced on this page, but I don't want to go back and do it for all of them!

Ah, Mister Hillbilly, I consider you a true friend.
Let's see, The money for the double wide is finally available this week. We want to tithe 10%, put some away for emergencies, pay down the balance on the house some, and buy a flat screen TV.

Rachel is still very sad from time to time. Which is understandable.
The side shed is full of boxes, and the garage is a mess.
I am putting all the old computer stuff (that I'm not getting rid of right now) in the garage attic, as I can get to it.
I have too much stuff and not enough room to sort it out.
I'm going to have more floor space to work on projects. Bu first I have to sort, and get rid of extra and not needed stuff.
I brought home a truck load of stuff form Rachels moms. and it filled up the empty spaces in the garage.
I gave up the main part of the garage for a wile. I wasn't getting much visual improvement.
So I am now working on the shed in front of the garage.
Here is a photo.
image_id: 19035
I am finishing up projects like painting a dresser for my daughter, (that takes up a lot of room),
Rebuilding a queen size box spring to be a long twin.
When the shed is cleaner I can roll the three wheeler into it and be able to work on it, and clean the garage. I hope.
john :D :D

Wow, that long?
The garage is still a mess.
The main part of the garage is still cluttered, but with different stuff.
I finished up painting a dresser for my daughter
Rebuilt a queen size box spring to be a long twin.
Put laminate floors in the main floor of the house.
A bunch of other projects.
There is less stuff outside because as I sort out the garage, I move things in.
After I finish some concrete work outside, I'm going to work on the swing arm\rear brakes\drive-line. Then get the engine running again.
Wish me luck. Send money.
john :D :D

Hi, it's been awhile.
This is going to sound like a country western song.
My Mom died a month ago, and my job is being outsourced to India.
So I'm trying to clean my cubicle and finish projects that I want to do at work.
My motivation is low.
